Kamal Haasan recounted a funny incident that happened during his first day of shoot with Simbu, in an interaction with The Hollywood Reporter.

As Thug Life gets ready to set theatres on fire this June, legendary actor Kamal Haasan shared his experience of working with Silambarasan TR (Simbu) in the much-awaited upcoming Mani Ratnam directorial venture. For release on June 5, 2025, the film sees Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam reuniting after three decades since their cult film Nayakan.

Kamal Haasan recounted a funny incident that happened during his first day of shoot with Simbu, in an interaction with The Hollywood Reporter. “When someone like Simbu comes to the set, and people say, ‘You’re acting with a legend,’ I have to take that pressure away,” Kamal Haasan said, speaking of the load that actors junior to him might feel when playing opposite a veteran artist.

He went on, “I had a talk with him and I said, ‘Don’t be scared of what I am, as an actor. Just do your stuff.’ And then he fired back — ‘Sir, you don’t take me lightly, thinking I am just a new boy. Do your job properly.’ ”

Kamal Haasan’s words were part of a larger question about generations in the industry and the concept of the legacy when a name seems passed down. Highlighting his hand in helping guide the next generation of artists, the veteran actor added, “The next generation is going to be taller because they’re going to be standing on my shoulders. And I support that, happily. I got it from my legends. I now must give it back.”

With only weeks remaining until the film hits theatres, expectations are sky-high. The trailer will be reportedly released on 17 May 2025 and the grand audio launch is scheduled on 24 May 2025. With such a lot of anticipation building among the fans for this reunion of Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam, the film is already looking like one of the biggest releases of the year.
