Actor and filmmaker Divya Khossla has opened up about a difficult phase in her early career, admitting she wasn’t allowed to continue acting once her marriage to T-Series Head Bhushan Kumar was fixed.
The revelation came during her candid chat on Bharti Singh and Haarsh Limbachiya’s podcast, where she spoke about how her creative journey took a sharp turn.
“Mai starting se bahut creative rahi hoon. I got married early. ‘Ab Tumahre Hawale’ ki release se pehle meri shaadi fix ho gayi, and I got married and uske baad my family was obiviously not ready for me to act." Instead of walking away from cinema, she decided to reinvent her career behind the camera.
Divya revealed that she began learning cinematography and editing while still studying.
"You know, so then I started learning cinematography and filming. Choti thi mai, tabhi padh rahi thi mai. Toh mai ne cinematography seekhi editing seekhi. Fir I directed my first video which was a blockbuster that was for Sonu Nigam's father,” she said with a mix of nostalgia and pride.
Married in 2005 at Vaishno Devi Temple, Divya and Bhushan Kumar’s relationship has often been in the spotlight.
From rumors of marital trouble to her dropping his surname on Instagram, speculation has followed them for years. Bhushan had clarified last year that the name change was purely for astrological reasons.
Their love story, as Divya narrated, was not exactly straightforward. Bhushan pursued her during her early film days, but she kept her distance.

Eventually, her mother encouraged her to consider him. “He invited me with my family for his sister’s wedding in Delhi, and that is when my parents met him and they liked him instantly because of his humility even after so many achievements. My mother pushed me to get married to him, and by then I also had started liking him. Thus, we got married."
Today, Divya Khossla stands as a successful director, producer, and actor.
