Punjabi music sensation Diljit Dosanjh has sparked a wave of excitement among fans by hinting at a potential collaboration with global pop icon Shakira. Speaking at the Billboard Summit in Toronto on June 11, the singer-actor shared an interesting anecdote during a conversation with Grammy President Panos A Panay, teasing the possibility of an Indian rendition of Shakira’s chart-topping hit, Hips Don’t Lie.
A video of the moment, which has since gone viral, was shared by a fan page on Instagram. In the clip, Panay brings up a rumour about Diljit carpooling with Shakira. Laughing, he asks, “Rumour has it that you carpooled with Shakira. I am curious how you see these collaborations from an artistic point of view?”
With his trademark charm, Diljit responded, “Hips don’t lie, sir,” drawing loud cheers and applause from the audience. He continued, “She (Shakira) invited me to her tour and suggested we do an Indian version of 'Hips Don’t Lie'. It’s going to be tricky, but I am in.”
The statement has left fans speculating eagerly about what a fusion between Latin pop and Punjabi beats could sound like.
