Filmmaker Guddu Dhanoa, best known for directing hits such as Deewana and Salaakhen, recently sparked some attention with his comments regarding Diljit Dosanjh.
Dhanoa, who gave Diljit his first major break in the film The Lion of Punjab, chose to distance himself from the actor-singer when asked about him during an interview with Friday Talkies.
When the subject of Diljit came up, Dhanoa responded curtly, “Let’s talk about positive people, real people, nice people, good people.”
This response drew attention, especially given that Dhanoa played a pivotal role in launching Diljit’s acting career in mainstream cinema. His comments seemed to hint at a sense of discontent, though he did not elaborate further on his feelings towards the The Lion of Punjab star.
The filmmaker also took the opportunity to reflect on the nature of fame in the industry. He recounted his experience with singer Sunidhi Chauhan, recalling how, during the shooting of Bichhoo, a 14-15-year-old Sunidhi sang Ek Vari Tak Le for the movie. Dhanoa shared that she once showed great respect by touching his feet, but years later, she became distant.
"I don’t understand why people change. I have met so many different kinds of people throughout my life," Dhanoa remarked. He went on to reveal that when he reached out to Sunidhi recently, she did not answer his calls, a stark contrast to her earlier warmth.
However, Dhanoa made sure to emphasise that not everyone in the industry changes after achieving success. He praised stars such as Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Vidya Balan, Akshay Kumar, and Sunny Deol for being "positive and warm" individuals who remained grounded.
As for The Lion of Punjab, the film marked Diljit Dosanjh’s debut as a lead actor in mainstream Punjabi cinema. Though the film flopped at the box office, it gained success with its soundtrack Lak 28 Kudi Da, which became a massive hit. Despite the film's commercial disappointment, it was a significant stepping stone in Diljit's career, and the movie will always be remembered as his entry into the film industry.
