Veteran marathoner Fauja Singh, 114, tragically passed away after being hit by an unidentified vehicle in Punjab's Jalandhar district. Singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh paid tribute to the legend, mourning his loss on social media.

Veteran marathon runner Fauja Singh, aged 114, tragically passed away on Monday after being struck by an unidentified vehicle while out for a walk in his native village in Punjab’s Jalandhar district.

The incident has left many in shock, and singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh took to social media to mourn the loss of the legendary athlete.

Diljit paid tribute to Fauja Singh on Monday morning by sharing a heartfelt post on Instagram Stories. Alongside a photo of the centenarian marathoner, he wrote, “Baba Fauja Singh Ji,” accompanied by folded hands emojis, expressing his grief and respect.

Author and former Punjab State Information Commissioner Khushwant Singh confirmed the death of Fauja Singh by speaking with her family directly.

The Turbaned Tornado, a biography written by Khushwant Singh, detailed the remarkable life and accomplishments of the legendary runner.

An unidentified vehicle struck Fauja Singh while he was walking in Bias village, according to a Jalandhar police official who also confirmed the incident. Later in the evening, he passed away from severe head injuries.

The driver who caused the collision fled the scene and is still unidentified, Adampur Police Station SHO Hardevpreet Singh told PTI over the phone.

Despite his advanced age, Fauja Singh, who is well-known throughout the world for his marathon achievements, was not only an athlete but also a symbol of resilience and pride within the Sikh community.

He was honoured at a local Fatehgarh Sahib school in 2013 and stated his intention to use his position to advance greater awareness of Sikh culture.
