Popular singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh is all set to join the cast of the much-anticipated war drama Border 2, beginning his shoot on June 10, 2025. The film, a sequel to the 1997 classic Border, will see him share screen space with Bollywood veteran Sunny Deol, who reprises his iconic role from the original.
According to a report by Pinkvilla, Sunny Deol has already begun shooting for his portions, and Diljit will join him in the initial schedule of filming. The film is directed by Anurag Singh and is being mounted on a grand scale to recreate the intensity and emotion of the 1971 Indo-Pak war. The report further reveals that Varun Dhawan and Ahan Shetty will also be pivotal parts of the cast, with Diljit set to shoot key scenes with them in July. The production team plans to wrap up the entire shoot by August 10, 2025.
A source close to the project shared insights with the publication, saying, “Diljit Dosanjh plays a very interesting part in Border 2, bringing in the heart to the tale of the 1971 war between India and Pakistan. He begins his journey on Border 2 from June 10 and will be shooting for the sequences with Sunny Deol in the first leg.”
The source also added, “Diljit has powerful moments with Sunny Deol and Varun Dhawan, as also Ahan Shetty. There’s also a strong backstory to his role which adds emotional depth to the narrative. While Sunny is expected to finish a large chunk of his role by June-end, Diljit and Varun will conclude their parts by August.”

Diljit will portray Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, a courageous Indian Air Force officer and the only member of the IAF to be posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra for his heroics during the 1971 war. Varun Dhawan will play Major Hoshiar Singh Dahiya, another war hero who received the same honor. Sunny Deol’s character is reportedly inspired by a braveheart from the 1999 Kargil War, blending stories of valour from both eras.
Produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta, Border 2 promises to be a gripping tale of patriotism, sacrifice, and camaraderie. The film is slated for a theatrical release on January 23, 2026, coinciding with the Republic Day weekend.
