Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh, who has been making waves with his "Dil-Luminati" tour across India and internationally, has recently shared some intriguing pictures from his upcoming film Punjab 95. On Wednesday, Diljit posted a series of images on his Instagram, giving fans a glimpse into his character in the movie. These photos show him at various points in the film’s story, showcasing his journey in a gripping narrative.

The first image depicts Diljit sitting inside a prison, his eyes closed, with harsh lighting casting shadows over him. This creates a feeling of helplessness and despair, hinting at the tough circumstances his character faces. In other images, Diljit’s character is seen outside the prison, reading newspapers and examining important documents, suggesting a shift in his journey where he begins to understand more about his situation and the world around him.

Diljit also shared that the teaser of Punjab ’95 will be released on January 17, 2025, the same day that Kangana Ranaut's film Emergency will be hitting theatres. Interestingly, both films have a connection to the life and actions of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Punjab ’95 focuses on events related to the life of Jaswant Singh Khalra, a human rights activist from Punjab, during a period of political turmoil in India. This historical backdrop, which includes Operation Blue Star and the assassination of Indira Gandhi, sets the stage for the events that unfold in the movie.

The film Punjab 95 is based on the true story of Jaswant Singh Khalra, who was investigating serious human rights violations committed by the police during the 1980s and 1990s in Punjab.

Khalra was uncovering evidence about the extra-judicial killings of thousands of people by the police, who had detained suspects under the pretext of combating terrorism.

His investigation made him a target, and he was eventually disappeared by the police. The movie, therefore, highlights his struggle and bravery in the face of extreme adversity.

In one of the photos Diljit shared, we get a glimpse of Khalra’s personal life, with him posing with two children, which adds a human touch to his character. This moment hints at the emotional depth of the film, as it shows the personal sacrifices that Khalra made while pursuing justice.

The film’s subject matter is sensitive, which led to challenges in getting it approved for release. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had initially suggested over 120 cuts to the film due to its controversial content. However, with Diljit’s rising popularity and international recognition, it seems the film is finally on track for release.

In other news, Diljit recently had the chance to meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. He shared his excitement about the meeting on social media, calling it a great start to 2025. During their conversation, Diljit and the Prime Minister discussed a variety of topics, including music, which further highlights Diljit’s growing influence beyond just the film and music industries.
