Diljit Dosanjh faces backlash for collaborating with Hania Amir

Diljit Dosanjh is under fire for his reported collaboration with Pakistani actress Hania Aamir, as outrage mounts in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack.

The nation remains on edge following the devastating incident in Pahalgam, Kashmir, where more than 26 innocent tourists lost their lives. With The Resistance Front (TRF)—a proxy of the Pakistan-based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba—claiming responsibility, public sentiment has turned strongly against any form of cultural or artistic ties with Pakistan.

Actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh is caught in the crossfire; he recently revealed that Sardaarji 3, his next movie, is finished and will be released in theatres in June 2025. Although there has been no formal confirmation, there is a lot of conjecture that well-known Pakistani actress Hania Aamir is among the cast members. Earlier this year, both actors were seen filming in the same spot, which fuelled persistent rumours of their on-screen partnership, according to perceptive social media users.

An intense online backlash has been sparked by this alleged association. Some users have gone so far as to call for a boycott of all upcoming projects involving Dosanjh, while hashtags advocating for the boycott of Sardaarji 3 have gained momentum. The outcry is based on the idea that working with Pakistani artists during such a delicate period denigrates the victims of terrorism and erodes national pride.

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has also reiterated its firm stance on this issue. In an official statement, the body declared:

“The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) strongly condemns the heinous and cowardly attack on innocent tourists in Pahalgam, Kashmir... We reiterate our directive, originally issued on February 18, 2019, calling for complete non-cooperation with all Pakistani artists, singers, and technicians within the Indian film and entertainment industry.”

On Thursday, Pakistani actor Fawad Khan’s film Abir Gulaal was also banned in India under similar circumstances. As national sentiment surges, the spotlight remains firmly on Diljit Dosanjh and the team behind Sardaarji 3 to clarify their position on the alleged cross-border collaboration.
