Few may be aware that, despite the growing anticipation for Coolie's release, Aamir Khan and Rajinikanth have previously appeared together on screen. Actually, they worked together for the first time almost thirty years ago on the 1995 movie Aatank Hi Aatank.
In the run-up to Coolie’s premiere, a nostalgic clip from that earlier venture has resurfaced and is making the rounds on social media. An Instagram user, sharing the throwback scene, captioned it: "Deva and Dahaa in their early days". The reference points to their upcoming roles in Coolie, with Rajinikanth portraying Deva and Aamir Khan appearing as Dahaa.
Fans in the comments were quick to point out that Aatank Hi Aatank was itself an adaptation of the Hollywood classic The Godfather. One wrote: "Legends don't return; they arrive", while another remarked: "I don't think many people know but the godfather remake in hindi cinema amir sir as al pacino".
Aatank Hi Aatank, a Hindi-language action crime drama directed by Dilip Shankar, was greatly influenced by The Godfather. Juhi Chawla costarred with Khan and Rajinikanth, making the cast nothing short of extraordinary.
The movie didn't have a big impact at the box office when it was released, even with such star power. Later, in 2000, it was dubbed into Tamil, but it also didn't do very well in that version.
Aamir Khan played the part of Rohan Singh Thakur, the gangster's son, and Rajinikanth played Munna, a trusted aide of a feared gangster. Crime, retaliation, and the complex ties of familial loyalty were the main themes of the story.
In the present, Coolie—which signifies Khan and Rajinikanth's reunion after thirty years apart—is the centre of attention. Shruti Haasan, Nagarjuna Akkineni, Soubin Shahir, and Upendra Rao are among the well-known cast members of the Lokesh Kanagaraj-directed movie.

When Coolie opens tomorrow, August 14, it will face off against War 2 at the box office. Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR, and Kiara Advani star in the latter, which was directed by Ayan Mukerji and is a part of YRF's popular Spy Universe. The highly anticipated action scenes involving Hrithik and Jr. NTR are predicted to be the film's highlights. Hrithik returns as Major Kabir Dhaliwal.
While War 2 serves as Jr NTR’s Bollywood debut, Aamir Khan’s cameo in Coolie has added an extra spark of anticipation ahead of the big day.
