  • Technical issues and poor communication fueled frustration

Mumbai witnessed tense scenes on Thursday, March 19 first day shows as multiple theaters screening Dhurandhar: The Revenge faced severe delays, triggering chaos, arguments, and even physical scuffles among frustrated moviegoers. The much-hyped release, headlined by Ranveer Singh and directed by Aditya Dhar, had already been riding on massive anticipation, but the ground reality inside several cinema halls told a very different story.

Videos circulating on social media show large crowds gathered inside theater lobbies, with heated arguments escalating into pushing and shouting matches. In one such incident reported from Dahisar, a screening had to be cancelled altogether after the situation spiralled out of control. Eyewitnesses claimed that angry viewers began confronting theater staff over the lack of communication and refunds.

At MovieTime Hub Mall and other locations across the city, similar scenes unfolded as audiences waited for hours without clarity on when the shows would begin. The delays were reportedly linked to technical issues and late show rollouts, but the absence of timely updates only added to the frustration.

Mumbai Police had to step in at certain locations to control the crowd and restore order. Officials were seen dispersing gatherings and ensuring that the situation did not escalate further. While no major injuries were reported, the atmosphere remained tense for a considerable period.

One viewer shared his ordeal online, stating that he had booked tickets worth Rs 1900 for a 7:30 pm show, only for the screening to begin nearly two and a half hours later at around 10 pm. “There was no proper announcement, no accountability. People were just waiting and getting more and more irritated,” he said.

The incident has raised serious concerns over theater management and crowd handling during high-profile releases. With Dhurandhar: The Revenge drawing massive footfall, exhibitors appear to have struggled with logistics and coordination.

Despite the on-ground chaos, the film continues to perform strongly in terms of occupancy and buzz. However, for many fans, the excitement of watching the film on day one turned into a frustrating and chaotic experience—one that has now gone viral for all the wrong reasons.
