Dhanashree Verma jokes about 'liking gold', gives a witty reply to trolls calling her a ‘gold digger’

Choreographer Dhanashree Verma became the subject of controversy, soon after her divorce from Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal, when online users started calling her a "gold digger." But she recently made a powerful and witty rebuttal, giving a strong comeback at the tag that had been thrown at her online.

During her appearance on Ashneer Grover's reality show Rise and Fall, which is available to stream on Amazon MX Player, Dhanashree quietly addressed the "gold digger" comment.

The contestants were split up into pairs and given the option to choose between a silver bag worth Rs 1 lakh and a gold bag worth Rs 2 lakh in an advertisement for an upcoming episode.

She was teamed up with actor Arjun Bijlani, who cracked a cheeky line in the task. Arjun remarked, “Dekho mujhe diamond, silver thoda suit nahi karta. Mujhe gold suit karta hai” (Look, diamond and silver don’t really suit me. Gold suits me). Although he said it in a humorous manner, but it did take a dig at all the trolling that Dhanashree has been facing for a while.

However, Dhanashree gave a witty reply along with a smile and said, “Yeh line toh main bol nahi sakti. Agar maine yeh line bol di toh jo mujhe pyaar milne vala hoga vo bhi nahi milega” (I cannot say this line. If I say this line, I won’t even get the love that I am supposed to get).

For those unversed, Dhanashree and Yuzvendra Chahal were married in a grand ceremony in Gurgaon in December 2020. But soon they started facing marital issues, and by 2022, they began living separately. The former couple went on to seek a divorce in February 2025 and were formally granted a divorce in March 2025.

Dhanashree received a lot of criticism and backlash, especially during those difficult times of their separation. Yuzvendra grabbed the headlines and the trolling became intense after he was seen wearing a T-shirt with the caption 'Be Your Own Sugar Daddy' during their final divorce hearing.
