Actor Deepika Padukone has made history by becoming the first Indian woman to be honoured with a star on the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame.
While some speculated that celebrities can buy their way onto the Walk of Fame, the truth is far from it. Inductees are selected by a dedicated selection panel each year, with no role played by money or influence in the decision-making process.
However, after being chosen, inductees must pay a sponsorship fee to cover the expenses of installing and maintaining the star, not for the honour itself. The current cost is $85,000 (roughly Rs 73 lakh), which covers both the upkeep of the renowned boulevard and the creation and installation of the star.
This number is subject to change over time and can be found on the Walk of Fame's official website.
The Hollywood Walk of Fame, a famous landmark with over 2,700 stars honouring notable figures from a variety of entertainment industries, is situated on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles.
These consist of live performances, radio, music, television, and movies. Every year, the initiative's governing body, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, receives 200 to 300 nominations. Every year, a select few are selected from this pool to receive honours.
A member of the Walk of Fame Class of 2026, Deepika Padukone is well-known throughout the world for her performance in XXX: The Return of Xander Cage. Emily Blunt, Timothée Chalamet, Marion Cotillard, Stanley Tucci, Rami Malek, Rachel McAdams, Demi Moore, Chris Columbus, Tony Scott, Greg Daniels, and Sarah Michelle Gellar are among the other individuals who have been inducted.
This recognition marks a significant milestone not just in Deepika’s career but also for Indian representation in global pop culture.
