‘De De Pyaar De 2,’ directed by Anshul Sharma, released in theatres on 14th November and stars Ajay Devgn, R Madhavan, Rakul Preet Singh, Jaaved Jaaferi, and Meezan Jafri.

‘De De Pyaar De 2’ remains a light, good-natured film that tries to mix romance, humour and generational drama in one steady flow. The story continues in the same universe as the earlier film, but this chapter stands on its own without depending on past events.

Warm story told with ease

Once in a while, the film drops a soft hint that these characters have lived through earlier storms, yet it uses those echoes only as gentle reminders. The makers keep the tone warm and friendly, aiming to give the audience an easy watch rather than a heavy emotional ride. The mood of the film stays steady from the start, signalling clearly that the goal is to entertain and bring a smile without pushing the audience too far into serious thought.

A visit that unravels truths

The story is about Ashish (Ajay Devgn), who has separated from his first wife, Manju (Tabu), and is now in love with Ayesha (Rakul Preet Singh). He wants to build a new life with her. He travels with Ayesha, his much younger partner, to meet her parents for the first time. What begins as a polite family visit quickly becomes a series of awkward exchanges, exposed insecurities, and moments where everyone tries too hard to look sensible.

Ayesha’s father, Rakesh (R Madhavan), is friendly on the outside but uneasy inside, as the idea of his daughter dating an older man takes time to settle. Her mother, Anju (Gautami Kapoor), tries to keep peace, but she too slips into doubt and silent judgment. Rakesh then creates a plan to push Ashish out of Ayesha’s life by bringing her best friend forward as the man she should marry.

Humour in small missteps

The film keeps its storytelling clean and direct. The direction uses everyday conversations and mild humour instead of big twists or loud scenes.

Ajay Devgn deserves full marks for laughing at his own image from films like ‘Phool Aur Kaante’ and ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.’ There’s a scene where a taxi driver jokes about the way he steps out of the cab, and it turns into a genuinely funny moment. Many jokes come from timing, discomfort, and the small mistakes people make when they are trying too hard to impress each other. At the same time, the script often chooses safety over surprise. A few emotional scenes are handled with care, though some ideas could have been pushed further for stronger depth. Still, the film maintains a steady balance between laughter and feeling, never letting one overpower the other.

Rakul and Madhavan shine

Ajay Devgn plays Ashish with restraint, showing a man who tries to stay calm even when he feels out of place. His performance works because he does not exaggerate; he lets the silence speak for him. Rakul Preet Singh remains the scene stealer and brings warmth to Ayesha, making her strong without turning her into someone who argues for effect.

She shows a young woman who knows what she wants but also understands the weight of family approval. R. Madhavan, as Ayesha’s father, is the most lively presence in the film. He plays the role with charm, confusion, and authority all at once. His reactions, especially in unexpected situations, add natural humour to several scenes. Jaaved Jaaferi’s easy charm gives the film an extra spark. The supporting cast keeps the energy consistent, adding both friction and relief.

A soft, hopeful ending

‘De De Pyaar De 2’ does not try to change the shape of romantic comedies, but it delivers what it promises: an easy, enjoyable film with a simple heart. It charms the audience through warmth rather than shock and through everyday humour rather than loud drama.

The film works best when the characters speak honestly and let their emotions show in small, real ways. It may not take bold risks, and it may not dive deep into the heavier questions around age-gap relationships, but it respects its characters enough to give them space to grow. By the time the story reaches its climax, the film leaves behind a gentle message about patience, understanding, and the strange ways families learn to adjust.

It is a comfortable, good-spirited film that may not be extraordinary, but it is pleasant to watch.
