For the first time in Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo’s history, Indian content creators Nidhi Bhanushali, Kashish Ratnani, and Simran Balar Jain made a landmark debut, bringing India’s rich craftsmanship, artistry, and storytelling to Japan’s premier fashion stage.
Their participation marks a significant milestone for India’s presence on the global fashion map and signals a growing appreciation for Indian design talent internationally.
The trio attended runway showcases for brands including JANE, ALLFORYOU, Ayaka Oshita, CHARINYEH, N O N A M E, S A L I M, TANG TSUNG CHIEN, WooleeX, and Zero Waste Fashion Story Wear. Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo 2026 Autumn/Winter, held from 16–21 March, featured 33 brands across official and partnership showcases, reinforcing Tokyo’s status as a global fashion capital.
This season also celebrated the latter half of Tokyo Fashion Week’s 20th anniversary, under the theme “Be The Seam Of The World,” highlighting Tokyo as a meeting point where local tradition and global innovation converge.
Founded in 2005, the Japan Fashion Week Organization (JFWO) has evolved into a robust platform for Japanese fashion, adapting to societal and industry changes over the years. This year, welcoming first-time Indian participants reflects the growing recognition of India’s evolving and globally relevant fashion identity.
Nidhi Bhanushali championed the women-led Indian label Suta, reimagining the traditional saree through contemporary styling, layering it over a structured Paul Smith shirt and flared trousers with playful surreal accessories. Reflecting on her choice of garment she shares, “The saree is one of the most future-ready garments—it’s fluid, adaptable, and endlessly reinterpretable.”
Kashish Ratnani made her debut in a couture ensemble by KALKI Fashion, showcasing an intricately embroidered ivory skirt and structured blouse with a voluminous cape. She shares, “Wearing KALKI at Tokyo Fashion Week allowed India’s craftsmanship to speak on a global stage.”
Simran Balar Jain presented a sustainable and emotionally resonant narrative, wearing an Indo-Western ensemble by Aggunj that had been part of a personal celebration in India, highlighting longevity and memory in fashion. She elaborates further, “This outfit carries stories and memories, and sharing it in Tokyo felt like celebrating them across continents.”
Together, Nidhi Bhanushali, Kashish Ratnani, and Simran Balar Jain exemplify India’s dynamic, culturally rooted, and globally resonant fashion identity.
