Indian comedians recently faced criticism from the critics and the government over their controversial remarks. However, lyricist, filmmaker, and comedian Varun Grover has recently addressed several ongoing controversies, including Kunal Kumra, during his latest standup comedy gig as part of his tour ‘Nothing makes sense’.
Varun indirectly took a dig at various issues, including several comedians facing arrest over jokes and the state of governance. He started with a disclaimer that seemed to reference the recent controversy surrounding Kunal Kamra.
He said in the disclaimer, “These are jokes. Venue ki isme koi galti nahi hain. Mera bhi nahin hai. Humare time ki hai. If offended, break a clock (There is no mistake of the venue. I am also not the one to be blamed. But the time can be).”
Varun’s comment was notably an indirect dig at Kunal Kamra’s most recent controversy, which was fueled after the comedian made jokes about Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde during his Mumbai leg.

However, the comment led to a backlash from the government, with Shiv Sena members damaging the Habitat Comedy Club in Khar, where Kamra held his show.
The comedian reacted to the vandalism of the venue, calling it “senseless.” He also compared it to someone destroying a truck full of tomatoes just because they didn't like the butter chicken they had for dinner.
Additionally, he issued an official statement on his social media which reads, “I will not apologise... I don't fear this mob & I will not be hiding under my bed, waiting for this to die down.” Kunal Kamra has gone on to continue the dish on the government with new comments and songs.
