Comedian and YouTuber Samay Raina appeared before the Maharashtra Cyber Cell on March 28, 2025, to record his statement in connection with the ongoing controversy around his online show India’s Got Latent. Raina, who was abroad for a series of live shows, returned to India after receiving multiple summons from the authorities.
The controversy was sparked by statements made by podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia during one of the episodes of the show. Due to public outrage, the cyber cell had asked Raina to appear for questioning on March 27 or March 28. Although his statement had been recorded earlier in the week, he was called in again on Friday for further questioning.
In his official statement, Raina expressed regret over the events and said, “I will be careful next time such a thing does not happen again. My mental state is not well due to this whole case. My Canada tour also did not go well. I am sorry for what I said, I know what I said is wrong.”
Raina had earlier delayed his return to India and postponed his India tour. He addressed his followers on Instagram Stories, where he wrote: “Hello guys, I’m rescheduling my India tour. You all will get refunds shortly, see you soon.” He assured fans that the ticket money would be refunded to the original source of payment.
The backlash led to multiple police complaints being filed against Allahbadia and other individuals associated with the show. Investigations are ongoing in both Mumbai and Guwahati, with the Mumbai Police and the Maharashtra Cyber Cell conducting separate probes.
