Rashmika Mandanna is riding high on the success of Pushpa 2: The Rule, but it seems the actress is only gaining more momentum with her upcoming projects. One such highly anticipated venture is the historical action film Chhaava, where Rashmika takes on the role of Maharani Yesubai, the fierce and determined wife of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, played by Vicky Kaushal. Her portrayal has already piqued the interest of audiences, especially with the release of the gripping trailer.
Director Laxman Utekar, who has been instrumental in bringing the film to life, shared an interesting insight into his casting decision. During the trailer launch, Utekar revealed that even before the script for Chhaava was fully written, he had made up his mind about the leads. "In 2021, I told Dinoo sir that I want to do this film with Vicky and Rashmika," he shared. However, there was initial doubt about Rashmika's ability to pull off a Marathi royal character, considering her South Indian roots. Utekar, however, was confident in her abilities, responding, "Her eyes are so pure that aur koi Marathi maharani lag hi nahin sakti."
This powerful statement highlights Utekar's trust in Rashmika's acting prowess and the unique presence she brings to the screen. It's evident that Rashmika's physicality and emotional depth make her a perfect fit for the role of Maharani Yesubai, a figure who embodies strength and grace. The director’s confidence in her ability to transcend regional boundaries only reinforces Rashmika’s status as a pan-India superstar.
