RM took to Weverse to share an emotional letter with ARMY, reflecting on his military experience, the passage of time, and his eagerness to return to civilian life.

BTS’ leader RM, who is currently serving in the South Korean military, delighted fans with a heartfelt Lunar New Year message and an exciting update about his service. Along with extending his warm wishes, RM (Kim Namjoon) announced that he has been promoted to sergeant, joining other BTS members who also received early promotions.

RM took to Weverse to share an emotional letter with ARMY, reflecting on his military experience, the passage of time, and his eagerness to return to civilian life. He reminisced about Lunar New Year traditions, especially tteokguk (rice cake soup), which symbolises turning a year older in Korean culture.

In a lighthearted tone, RM humorously pointed out that, according to Korean age, he has turned 32, though he reassured himself (and fans) that internationally, he is still 30. "I guess I’m officially an ‘ahjusshi’ (uncle) now," he joked, embracing the affectionate term for older men.

The biggest news in his letter was his promotion to sergeant. RM revealed that the four BTS members currently enlisted—Jin, J-Hope, SUGA, and himself—are now all sergeants, thanks to early promotions.

RM also shared that he is already counting down the days until his discharge on June 10, 2025. "I’ll be out of here soon," he wrote, expressing his anticipation to resume life as Kim Namjoon, the artist and civilian.

Despite the demands of military service, RM has found ways to stay engaged and creative. He shared that he has been exercising regularly, playing the saxophone, and preparing for his eventual return to music. He jokingly mentioned that he shaved his head again to mark his promotion, even sharing a photo to reassure fans that he is doing well.

In 2024, he released his pre-recorded solo album Right Place, Wrong Person, featuring hit tracks like LOST, Come Back to Me, and Groin. Additionally, RM’s first-ever solo documentary, RM: Right People, Wrong Place, was released in over 110 countries, including India.
