Vikram Bhatt arrested in Rs30 crore fraud case

As quoted by Hindustan Times, after a lookout notice, veteran filmmaker Vikram Bhatt was arrested on December 7, 2025, in connection with a Rs 30 crore fraud case filed by Dr Ajay Murdia, founder of the IVF‑chain Indira IVF. The arrest was carried out in a coordinated operation by the Rajasthan Police and the Mumbai Police at a residence on Yari Road in Mumbai, reportedly the house of Bhatt’s sister‑in‑law.

According to the FIR filed at Bhupalpura police station in Udaipur, Dr Murdia claims that Bhatt, along with his wife Shwetambari Bhatt, daughter Krishna Bhatt, and several associates, persuaded him to invest over Rs30 crore into multiple film projects, including a biopic based on his late wife’s life. The promoters allegedly promised returns as high as Rs200 crore.

Dr Murdia asserts that after receiving initial funds disbursed in instalments, several projects were stalled midway, while others were released without giving him the promised credit or returns.

As per reports the FIR names eight accused: Vikram Bhatt, his wife Shwetambari Bhatt, their daughter Krishna, co‑producer Mehboob Ansari, Dinesh Kataria, and a few others, including Mudit Button, Gangeshwarlal Srivastava, and Ashok Dubey. Some associates had already been arrested earlier.

Bhatt has strongly denied all charges. In a statement to the media, he called the FIR “misleading” and alleged that documents submitted might be forged. He said he was unaware of the complaint until recently. Bhatt also claimed that production was halted after Dr Murdia stopped providing funds, and asserted that he has proof, including contracts and communications, to establish his innocence.

He further alleged that payments to crew and technicians for the stalled films, including a project titled Virat, were still pending, and that the complaint is part of an attempt to sidestep those obligations.

According to police, investigators will examine bank statements, communication records, and contractual agreements to trace fund flows and verify claims of misappropriation. The  Rajasthan Police are expected to seek transit remand for Bhatt from the Bandra court to shift him to Udaipur for further questioning. More arrests are expected as the investigation progresses.
