Maddock Films’ upcoming supernatural comedy Thamma is just days away from its grand Diwali release, and advance bookings for the film have officially opened to a strong start. According to the initial reaction, audiences are already very excited about this eerie but funny film.
Thamma, which stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Rashmika Mandanna, and Ayushmann Khurrana in the lead roles, has seen encouraging advance ticket sales numbers. On the first day of pre-booking, 20,798 tickets were sold across 2D, IMAX 2D, and 4DX screens, earning the movie Rs 63.36 lakh, according to industry trade reports.
Its Tuesday release will allow the film to enjoy an extended five-day opening weekend, which is expected to boost its box office performance.
Thamma will face competition from Harshvardhan Rane’s Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, as both films are scheduled to release on October 21.
Soon after its release, the Thamma trailer was widely praised. Nawazuddin Siddiqui's enigmatic character enters and drastically alters the tone of the film, which begins with Ayushmann and Rashmika portraying a couple who are incredibly in love.
Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, Thamma marks the fifth instalment in Maddock’s popular horror-comedy franchise. The film stars Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Paresh Rawal.
As reported by Bollywood Hungama, the makers collaborated with top international VFX studios to achieve the film’s high-end visual effects, which significantly increased the production cost. The film has been made on a massive budget of Rs 125 crore, excluding Rs 20 crore spent on marketing and promotions, bringing the total to approximately Rs 145 crore.
This makes Thamma the most expensive film in the Maddock horror-comedy series — even surpassing Stree 2, which featured Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurrana, and was produced at a cost of Rs 125 crore.
