Sulakshana Pandit's prayer meet to be held on November 9, brother Lalit Pandit shares a heartfelt tribute

The prayer meet for the late Sulakshana Pandit will be held today, November 9, as confirmed by her brother Lalit Pandit of the Jatin-Lalit duo.

The prayer meet for the late Sulakshana Pandit is scheduled for today, November 9, as shared by her brother, playback singer Lalit Pandit of the Jatin-Lalit duo.

Lalit paid a heartfelt tribute to his sister, who passed away on November 6 due to a cardiac arrest. Sharing the details on Instagram, Lalit posted a poster of the prayer meet and wrote, "RIP Didi—you will always be there deep in my heart."

According to reports, Sulakshana Pandit passed away at the age of 71 while being taken to Nanavati Hospital. Her last rites were performed at the Pawan Hans crematorium in Juhu, Mumbai, with close family members, including Vijayata Pandit and Lalit Pandit, as well as actors Shabana Azmi and Poonam Dhillon, in attendance.


Sulakshana hailed from a musical family in Hisar, Haryana, and was the niece of renowned classical singer Pandit Jasraj. She began singing at the age of nine and started her career in music alongside her brother Mandheer. Her siblings include Jatin Pandit, Lalit Pandit, and actor Vijayata Pandit.

Apart from her musical talent, Sulakshana also had a successful acting career. She made her film debut in 1975 with Uljhan, opposite Sanjeev Kumar. Over the years, she appeared in movies like Sankoch, Hera Pheri, Khandaan, Dharam Khanta, Do Waqt Ki Roti, and Gora.

Sulakshana was known for her versatile singing and lent her voice in several languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Oriya, and Gujarati. Some of her popular songs include "Tu Hi Saagar Tu Hi Kinara," "Pardesiya Tere Desh Mein," "Bekrar Dil Tut Gaya," "Baandhi Re Kahe Preet," and "Saat Samundar Paar."

Her sister Vijayata had revealed in an interview with Lehren Retro that Sulakshana had been unwell for a long time. Vijayata shared that she had been taking care of her, helping her sell her property and buy a flat in Lokhandwala. She also assisted in securing homes for their other sisters, Sandhya and Maya.

Sulakshana’s personal life was marked by sadness. She had fallen in love with actor Sanjeev Kapoor, but his rejection of her marriage proposal and his untimely death at 47 left her heartbroken. She lived much of her later life in isolation and struggled with depression.
