
Shri Anand Ramanand Sagar Chopra, son of the renowned director Ramanand Sagar, who was the creative force behind the television series Ramayan, passed away on February 13, 2026.
His final ceremonies took place at Hindu Smashan Bhumi, Pavan Hans, Mumbai, at 4.30 PM, signalling the end of an era for one of the most powerful families in Indian television.
Several popular celebrities from the film and television industry paid their last respects to Shri Anand Ramanand Sagar Chopra.
Actress Bhagyashree, along with her husband, Himalaya Dasani, attended his last rites. Veteran filmmaker Ramesh Sippy also paid his last respects to the son of Ramanand Sagar.
Shri Anand Ramanand Sagar Chopra’s family members announced his death on social media, writing, “it is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our dear father Shri Anand Ramanand Sagar Chopra."

As a member of the illustrious Sagar family, Anand Sagar continued his father Ramanand Sagar's groundbreaking work in Indian television, which transformed viewership in the 1980s, by contributing to mythical productions like Ramayan (2008).
In addition to directing, he has produced a number of well-known films, including Ankhen, Armaan, and Alif Laila.
In the meantime, Ramanand Sagar wed Leelavati Sagar and had five kids: one girl, Sarita Sagar, and four sons, Subhash Sagar, Moti Sagar, Prem Sagar, and Anand Sagar.

Beginning as a writer for films in the 1940s, Ramanand worked on hits like "Barsaat." He then directed successful films like Charas (1976) and Prem Bandhan (1979).
He revolutionised Indian small-screen storytelling in the 1980s by producing mythical epics like Luv Kush, Shri Krishna, and Vikram Aur Betaal after switching to television. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2000 for his contributions to the popularisation of ancient Hindu epics.
