The sudden passing of veteran actor Satish Shah on Saturday has left the Indian entertainment industry in a state of deep sorrow and disbelief.
The loss is very personal to Rajesh Kumar, who portrayed Satish's on-screen son Rosesh in the popular sitcom Sarabhai vs. Sarabhai. In spirit, the two were family, not just colleagues.
Rajesh revealed that Satish Shah was not only in good health but was also planning to return to acting soon — a comeback his fans would have eagerly awaited.
On Saturday, hours after the news broke, Rajesh took to Instagram to share a heartfelt tribute to his “on-screen dad.” Later, he posted a recent photograph of Satish Shah his signature grey hair and moustache perfectly capturing his graceful ageing and timeless charm.
He wrote alongside, “We spoke over this look of yours couple of days back. Dad, you are a liar. You said you will be back in sometime. Never knew that you will show us your back and leave like this. I miss you. I am sorry I delayed our meeting.”
In another emotional note, he added, “You have changed RIP into RIH forever. Rest in humour dad. Will try to smile like you always.”
Their bond had been built over years of laughter and shared memories — first during Sarabhai vs Sarabhai (2004–2006) and again when the show was revived in 2017.
After largely stepping away from the spotlight post-2014, Satish Shah had made a brief return with the web series United Kacche in 2023.
During an interview with News18, he had opened up about his decision to take a break, saying, “I’ve stopped performing in public now, I mean, in movies and otherwise. I have taken, you could say, a sabbatical, and it has been rather long. Pehle se meri fitrat main raha hai, main koi cheez enjoy karta hoon tabhi karta hoon.”
He also spoke about wanting to return to acting once the passion reignited: “I stopped enjoying, I guess, for a while, so I thought maybe I’ll rejuvenate myself and then start all over again. I’m in no hurry to die.” Sadly, those words — once filled with hope — now carry a haunting poignancy.
Satish Shah reportedly collapsed at his Mumbai home while having lunch and was rushed to Hinduja Hospital, where doctors could not revive him.
His final rites were held the following morning at the Pawan Hans Crematorium in Vile Parle, where colleagues, friends, and fans gathered to bid him farewell.
