Saif Ali Khan on how media handled Dharmendra's health condition news

Veteran Bollywood legend Dharmendra was discharged from Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital early Wednesday morning after being admitted for health issues.

According to Dr Pratit Samdani, the actor is continuing treatment at home. “Dharmendra ji was discharged around 7:30 am… the family has decided to give him home treatment,” he confirmed to PTI.

The actor’s brief hospital stay triggered an intense media rush, prompting strong reactions from within the industry. Saif Ali Khan drew parallels to his own family’s experience. Speaking to News 24 Online, Saif recalled the overwhelming attention when his father, the late Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, was hospitalised.

“We experienced a situation like this when Abba was in the hospital. We were constantly fobbing off unwanted attention while dealing with the crisis at hand,” he said. “There should definitely be laws against such brutal violation of privacy.”

The frenzy was fuelled further by misinformation around Dharmendra’s condition, which led Hema Malini to publicly call out media platforms for irresponsible reporting. Taking to X, she wrote, “What is happening is unforgivable! How can responsible channels spread false news about a person who is responding to treatment and recovering? Please give due respect to the family and its need for privacy.”

Soon after Dharmendra’s discharge, Sunny Deol issued a statement through his team, urging restraint and compassion. “Mr Dharmendra has been discharged… We kindly request the media and the public to refrain from any further speculation and to respect his and the family’s privacy during this time.”

Extending gratitude to fans, the statement added, “We appreciate everyone’s love, prayers, and good wishes for his continued recovery, good health, and long life. Please respect him because he loves you.”
