Spiritual leader Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev recently engaged in a candid conversation with film producer Namit Malhotra, who is backing Nitesh Tiwari’s highly anticipated project, Ramayana.
During their conversation, Sadhguru asked him why he was interested in Yash's casting as Ravana and offered his thoughts on the matter.
Sadhguru and Namit talked extensively about the creation of the epic movie and the importance of its characters during the conversation on the World of Ramayana YouTube channel.
While talking about the process of creating the film’s universe, Namit revealed that he had been searching for someone who could truly embody the essence of Ravana. At this point, Sadhguru humorously remarked, “I don’t know how Yash became Ravana. I know him very well. A villain always means he has a blunt nose and a huge stature. Yash is a handsome man.”
Responding to Sadhguru’s observation, Namit explained the creative thought process behind the decision. “It is because we were looking for a superstar-level personality to play the role. He is very handsome, extremely talented, and one of the most loved stars in the country,” he said.
He further elaborated that Ravana’s character required depth and complexity. “The whole idea was to explore the many shades of Ravana and understand why he was who he was,” Namit added.
Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, features an ensemble cast with Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, Yash as Lankapati Ravana, Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman, and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman. The film also stars Vivek Oberoi, Rakul Preet Singh, Lara Dutta, Kajal Aggarwal, Kunal Kapoor, Arun Govil, Sheeba Chadha, and Indira Krishnan in key roles.
The magnum opus will be released in two parts — with Part 1 slated for Diwali 2026 and Part 2 set to hit theatres during Diwali 2027.
