As Rang De Basanti turns 20, the film that once stirred an entire generation is set to be celebrated with a special, emotion-filled reunion.

To mark two decades since its release on 26 January 2006, the makers have organised a private screening for the cast and crew, a moment that promises nostalgia, reflection and plenty of memories.

Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Rang De Basanti wasn’t just a film; it became a cultural moment.

With its fearless storytelling and powerful message, it changed the way Indian cinema spoke about patriotism, responsibility and rebellion. Featuring Aamir Khan, R Madhavan, Siddharth Suryanarayan, Soha Ali Khan, Sharman Joshi, Kunal Kapoor, Anupam Kher and Atul Kulkarni, the film struck a deep emotional chord with audiences across the country.

The anniversary screening, scheduled to take place in Mumbai on 30 January, will see Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra reunite with Aamir Khan, Siddharth Suryanarayan, Soha Ali Khan, Kunal Kapoor and Atul Kulkarni.

For the team, it’s more than just watching an old film — it’s about revisiting a chapter that shaped their careers and left a lasting imprint on Indian cinema.

At its heart, Rang De Basanti tells the story of a group of carefree youngsters whose lives change while working on a documentary about India’s freedom fighters.

As they step into the shoes of revolutionaries from the past, they begin to see the cracks in the present — corruption, injustice and indifference — and are forced to confront their own beliefs. The journey from apathy to action is what made the film so unforgettable.

Even after 20 years, the film’s themes feel strikingly relevant. Its music, dialogues and iconic scenes continue to live on, often resurfacing during moments of national reflection. For many, Rang De Basanti was the first film that made patriotism feel personal, urgent and deeply emotional.

As the cast and crew come together once again, the anniversary celebration serves as a reminder of why the film still holds a special place in so many hearts.

Two decades later, Rang De Basanti remains timeless — bold, stirring and impossible to forget.
