On the 40th death anniversary of Sanjeev Kumar, veteran actor Raj Babbar paid a heartfelt tribute to the late icon, reflecting on his remarkable influence on Indian cinema. Sanjeev Kumar, remembered for his unmatched range and effortless emotional depth, passed away in November 1985 at the age of just 47. Four decades later, his legacy continues to shape acting in Hindi films.

Raj Babbar took to Instagram to share a throwback photo of himself with Sanjeev Kumar. In the image, the two actors are seen smiling warmly, with Sanjeev Kumar’s hand resting affectionately on Raj Babbar’s shoulder — a moment that captures mutual respect and camaraderie.

While sharing the photograph, Raj Babbar wrote, “Sanjeev Kumar ji had an unmatched versatility. His natural performances in Koshish, Aandhi, Sholay and Mausam have inspired me greatly. His extraordinary craft was amplified by his humble nature that makes his legacy in Indian cinema truly unforgettable.”

Calling him a “legend of unmatched versatility,” Raj Babbar noted that Sanjeev Kumar never relied on theatrics or external flair.

His performances were grounded in emotional truth — something that allowed him to shift seamlessly across genres. Whether portraying a blind man in Koshish, a complex political figure in Aandhi, or comedic and dramatic dual roles in Angoor, he brought authenticity to every frame.

The actor also shared a short video montage on Instagram Stories, featuring old photographs of Sanjeev Kumar set to the song Tum Aagaye Ho Noor Aa Gaya Hai from the film Aandhi, sung by Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar. The choice of song — reflective, affectionate, almost nostalgic — underscored the depth of admiration.

Raj Babbar and Sanjeev Kumar had worked together in several films including Silsila, Baat Ban Jaye, Rusvai, and Namumkin. Their collaborations were known for strong character interplay and emotional restraint, a quality both actors valued.

Sanjeev Kumar remains one of Indian cinema’s most respected performers. Forbes India once included his portrayal of twin characters in Angoor in their list of 25 Iconic Performances of Indian Cinema. His career, though brief due to his early passing, is widely regarded as a masterclass in naturalistic acting.
