Namit Malhotra, producer and Global CEO of DNEG, is betting big on Indian cinema’s most ambitious project yet — Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari. Calling it his life’s biggest focus, Malhotra said, “There is no story in the world greater than the Ramayana.”
The film, mounted on an epic scale, is already being touted as a once-in-a-generation spectacle. And with a cast led by Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Yash, Sunny Deol, and Ravi Dubey, expectations couldn’t be higher.
A Grand Vision for the Timeless Epic
For Malhotra, who has backed projects like Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva and The Garfield Movie, Ramayana goes beyond cinema — it’s personal. “When the opportunity came, I felt we must show this story in the way it deserves — with scale, authenticity, and technology that can bring imagination to life,” he explained.
He pointed out that while audiences have seen Ramayana on television, no film has ever attempted its battles and characters with such cinematic ambition. “What we’ve seen so far has been like a stage play, but now we want to show those exact moments — the wars, the drama, the grandeur,” Malhotra added.
The Film That Could Redefine Indian Cinema
Ramayana will release in two parts — Part 1 in Diwali 2026 and Part 2 in Diwali 2027, both in IMAX. Produced by Prime Focus Studios in association with Monster Mind Creations and DNEG, the project is already being hailed as a cultural landmark in the making.
The first look, unveiled in August, sparked frenzy online with fans and industry insiders praising its visual scale and emotional core. With Yash as Ravana, Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, and Sai Pallavi as Sita, the film is shaping up as an event for the ages.
Malhotra summed it up best: “We ourselves haven’t seen Ramayana at this scale, nor has the world. My vision is to make every Indian proud and bring this story alive for the world to experience.”
