Former Pakistani minister and Pakistan Peoples' Party (PPP) leader Nabil Gabol has drawn attention with a frank response to queries about seeking an international ban on the Indian spy thriller Dhurandhar.

In a video that has gone viral on social media, Nabil Gabol was asked whether he would take the film to the international community to challenge its portrayal of Pakistani regions and figures.

Reacting with a mix of humour and criticism, Nabil Gabol said he does not have the financial resources required to pursue such global legal avenues, stating plainly, 'mere paas itne paise hai nahi.' His comment triggered sharp reactions online, adding another dimension to the ongoing debate surrounding the film.

Nabil says Lyari's representation inaccurate

Nabil Gabol’s remarks also touched on his portrayal in the movie. He suggested that the film’s depiction of certain regions, especially Lyari, and his representation were inaccurate, and he acknowledged that some elements had been exaggerated for dramatic impact.

He said, “jo mera role dikhaya gaya hai mera role bhot dabbang tha, or dabbang iss tareeke se tha ki inhone mere role ko sahi tareeke se nahi dikhaya. Inhone koshish kari hai Lyari ko terrorist hub dikhane ki, Lyari koi terrorist hub nahi hai agar inka koi agent aa jata toh vo zinda-salammat Lyari se nahi jata.”

Dhurandhar was banned in Pakistan and several Middle Eastern countries after its release due to politically sensitive content, but it continues to attract attention and discussion across borders.

In Dhurandhar, veteran actor Rakesh Bedi plays Jameel Jamali, a character inspired by Nabil Gabol, weaving a narrative that portrays geopolitical tensions and high-stakes espionage. The film, directed by Aditya Dhar, has been noted for its intense sequences and hard-hitting depiction of events such as the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, prompting strong reactions from audiences and political figures alike since its December 5 release.
