As Karwa Chauth approaches, Lin Laishram’s excitement is palpable — not for the glamour of the ritual, but for the love and connection it symbolises. Married to Randeep Hooda, Lin views the festival as a celebration of unity and shared commitment rather than a mere tradition.
“Ever since we got married, I have kept it,” Lin smiles, recalling how even Randeep once joined her in fasting. “He’s always fasting anyway — he can go 20 to 24 hours without eating because of his intermittent fasting routine. For him, fasting is not a big deal; for me, it gets a little taxing. But I enjoy the festivities, the puris, the kheer — and the feeling of doing something for your partner out of love.”
For Lin, who hails from Manipur, the concept of Karwa Chauth was initially unfamiliar. Yet, she embraces it as a beautiful part of her life with Randeep. “I don’t see it from any other angle except love,” she says warmly. “It’s such a deep connection that you do this for your spouse.”
Her marriage to Randeep is also a union of two vibrant cultures — one deeply rooted in Manipuri heritage and the other in North Indian traditions. “I grew up watching a little bit of Bollywood,” Lin says. “It’s amazing to see and take part in these traditions. I like doing a little mix and match of all cultures. He always wishes my family during our Manipuri festivals, and he’s very keen to learn about my culture and people. When we were in Manipur, he wanted to learn more — he even talks about making a movie there someday.”
For Lin, this mutual curiosity and respect form the backbone of their relationship. “That’s what marriage is,” she explains. “If we don’t support each other or give space to grow, the relationship becomes stale. Randeep and I always make sure we understand what the other person wants to do. Even if something might fail, he tells me, ‘Do it. At least you’ll know how it turns out.’ That’s the kind of support that keeps our bond strong.”
Lin adds that they often collaborate creatively as well. “We read scripts together — he bounces things off me, and I give my honest opinions,” she shares with a laugh. “Sometimes I criticise a lot, but he takes it in his stride. That’s what I love — it’s not just romance; it’s a real partnership built on understanding and mutual growth.”
Whether fasting together or brainstorming scripts, Lin and Randeep’s marriage seems grounded in understanding, shared passion, and a willingness to learn from each other’s worlds. As she prepares for another Karwa Chauth, Lin’s approach remains refreshingly simple — a heartfelt blend of love, laughter, and cultural exchange.
