As Shah Rukh Khan celebrated his 60th birthday on 2 November, the outpouring of love from fans and friends across the country was nothing short of extraordinary.

Veteran singer-composer Kumar Sanu, whose soulful voice has defined some of Shah Rukh's most memorable on-screen moments, was one of those who joined in the celebration. His sentimental and loving message perfectly encapsulated the relationship between two artists who became well-known simultaneously.

Fans were immediately taken back to Bollywood's heyday when the iconic playback singer posted a video from an old event on Instagram.

In the clip, a female host introduces Kumar Sanu on stage, while a young Shah Rukh, standing beside her, cheekily asks if he’s the one who sings in Kishore Kumar’s voice.

The host laughs and quickly corrects him, saying Sanu has “his own unique style of singing,” before welcoming him to perform.

Alongside the video, Sanu wrote,

“Happy Birthday @iamsrk It’s been such a long and beautiful journey — from reality shows to Maya Memsaab, Dil Aashna Hai, Deewana, Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, Chamatkar, Chahat, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, Baazigar, Pardes, DDLJ, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai… just to name a few!.”

Reminiscing about their early days, he added,

“We both started around the same time — I still remember getting the chance to sing for him at the very beginning of his career. Since then, he’s been such a special part of mine too. A man with a heart of gold! Love you always, Shah Rukh. God bless you.”

For fans who grew up in the 1990s, the collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan and Kumar Sanu is the sound of pure nostalgia.

From the romantic charm of ‘Dil Hai Mera Deewana’ in Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman to the timeless beauty of ‘Do Dil Mil Rahe Hain’ in Pardes, Sanu’s voice became the heartbeat of SRK’s on-screen romance.

Songs like ‘Sochenge Tumhe Pyar’ from Deewana and ‘Ek Din Aap’ from Yes Boss remain eternal favourites even decades later.
