Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh recently melted the internet with the first glimpse of their one-year-old daughter, Dua Padukone Singh, who made a surprise appearance in matching red Sabyasachi outfits with her mother during Diwali celebrations.
While fans couldn’t stop gushing over little Dua’s adorable looks, a social media controversy soon followed when an influencer drew comparisons between her own daughter and the star couple’s child.
Influencer Shreyashi Debnath Gupta, along with her husband Aniket Gupta, shared a photo collage on Instagram featuring their baby girl, Daisy, alongside Deepika, Ranveer, and Dua. In the picture, Daisy was dressed similarly in a red outfit with two pigtails.
Shreyashi captioned it, “How can they look so much similar? For a moment, I truly thought it was my Daisy! Anyone else see the resemblance?”
While many fans responded with affectionate comments, saying both babies looked “adorable,” a section of netizens sharply criticised the post. Several users felt that comparing two infants especially a celebrity’s child was in poor taste.
One comment read, “Stop comparing your child with any other kid, celebrity or not. This is absolutely tactless and just for attention.” Another user wrote, “Both are cute, but not similar. Why do people do this only for reach?”
Supporters of Shreyashi, however, defended her intentions, arguing that she was merely expressing excitement and affection rather than seeking clout. “She just saw a resemblance and shared it out of love, not for attention,” one user commented.
Deepika and Ranveer had earlier requested privacy for Dua, asking paparazzi not to photograph her after birth. The couple had even hosted a meeting with the media urging restraint.
However, their decision to share family photos during Diwali with Dua dressed in a matching red outfit and a tiny bindi became a viral moment, with fans calling her “a perfect mix of Deepika’s grace and Ranveer’s charm.”
