Hrithik Roshan has finally broken his silence on the underwhelming box office performance of War 2. The much-anticipated film, directed by Ayan Mukerji and co-starring Jr NTR, released in August this year but failed to replicate the success of its 2019 predecessor.
Despite the hype and massive budget, the movie did not deliver as expected, leaving fans and trade analysts disappointed.
Recently, during Durga Puja celebrations, Hrithik and Ayan were spotted together, and trolls took to social media to target the filmmaker for the film’s failure. However, Hrithik chose to address the matter with honesty and grace in a heartfelt Instagram post on Friday.
Sharing behind-the-scenes pictures from the sets, Hrithik reflected on his experience of stepping back into the role of Kabir. He wrote, "Playing Kabir was so much fun. So relaxed, knew him so well. It was going to be easy. Finally a movie I could do like so many others do, keep it simple, play the actor, do your job and come home. And it was exactly that. I was taken care of so well by my director Ayan. It was such a pleasure to have his energy on set."
The actor praised Ayan Mukerji, stressing how much he enjoyed the director’s vibe and working style. "Everything seemed so perfect. Like it's meant to be. A sure shot. No worries, just needed to do my job right. Which of course I did," he added.
Hrithik admitted that beneath this comfort lay an unsettling truth he chose to ignore. "But something was lurking behind that presumptuous certainty. A voice that I kept shutting out. This is too easy... I know this too well. And another that said I deserve it, every film doesn't have to be a torture and trauma and an incessant search for the truth of the moment. Relax."
War 2, produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films, was mounted on a staggering budget of Rs 400 crore. However, the film managed to collect only Rs 236.55 crore, falling short of both expectations and the benchmark set by War (2019), which had earned Rs 318.01 crore.
