Gustaakh Ishq, starring Vijay Varma and Fatima Sana Shaikh, released on November 28 and has opened to a slow start at the box office. Directed by Vibhu Puri, the film also marks the theatrical debut of celebrity fashion designer Manish Malhotra’s production house, Stage5.
Despite receiving positive reactions from audiences on social media, the film struggled to make a strong impact in terms of day-one earnings.
According to industry tracker reports, Gustaakh Ishq managed to collect just Rs 50 lakh on its opening day.
The movie's overall Hindi occupancy on Friday was 8.61%, with a steady improvement over the course of the day. It began with 3.62% in morning shows, increased to 4.89% in the afternoon, and continued to rise slightly to 4.97% in the evening. The night shows saw the biggest increase, recording a much higher 20.96%, which helped boost the day's total numbers.
At the box office, Gustaakh Ishq is up against fierce competition, though. The Vijay–Fatima film struggled to gain traction at the ticket booths as Dhanush and Kriti Sanon's Tere Ishk Mein opened much stronger, earning Rs 16 crore on its first day.
The movie, which is set in the 1990s, centres on three main characters: Vijay Varma's Nawazuddin Saifuddin; Fatima Sana Shaikh's Mannat; and Naseeruddin Shah's Aziz Beg. Their complex emotions, interpersonal connections, and individual journeys tell the story.
Moneycontrol’s review describes the film a, "In the end, ‘Gustaakh Ishq’ remains a quiet film that doesn’t try to impress with grand drama. It leaves you with small, soft moments—a line of poetry, a glance, a tune—that stay in your mind even when the story doesn’t. It never really hits big emotional highs, but the actors are sincere, the visuals are pleasing, and now and then it finds a gentle poetic touch."
