Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar is continuing its strong box office run and is eyeing the record to become the highest-grossing Indian film of all time. However, the film has faced a major hurdle overseas, as its release has been banned in several Gulf countries, including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. The ban has now prompted the Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA) to intervene.
According to a report by India Today, IMPPA President Abhay Sinha stated that the association has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking his intervention to help facilitate the film’s release in the Gulf region.
Speaking to the outlet, Sinha said, “We want them to watch the film and reconsider the ban. The letter has been sent last evening and we are hopeful for a positive outcome. Dhurandhar is one of India’s biggest film and the world should watch it."
Despite its massive box office success in India and several other international markets, the absence of a Gulf release has emerged as a setback for the Aditya Dhar directorial.
Indian films that deal with cross-border or geopolitical themes often encounter resistance in the Middle East, where content is subject to stricter scrutiny.
As industry bodies continue to push for a review of the ban, attention is now focused on whether diplomatic and institutional efforts will pave the way for Dhurandhar to reach cinema screens across Gulf countries in the coming days.
Meanwhile, on its 33rd day in theatres on Tuesday, January 6, Dhurandhar collected Rs 4.75 crore nett in India, taking its total domestic box office earnings to Rs 781.75 crore, as per industry tracker Sacnilk.
The sequel, Dhurandhar 2, is scheduled for release in March 2026 and is expected to follow the footsteps of success of its predecessor.
