Security officials said the thefts occurred in the dense crowd of over 25000 fans who had gathered to see the Grammy-winning pop star perform for around 90 minutes.

A night of high-energy music turned into a major security fiasco for attendees of Enrique Iglesias’ Mumbai show. On Wednesday evening at the MMRDA Grounds in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), at least 73 mobile phones collectively worth Rs 23.85 lakh were reportedly stolen during the packed concert, police have confirmed.

Security officials said the thefts occurred in the dense crowd of over 25000 fans who had gathered to see the Grammy-winning pop star perform for around 90 minutes. Tickets for the event started at Rs 7000.

This concert marked Enrique’s long-awaited return to India after more than a decade and featured his major hits such as Hero and Bailamos. The performance was celebrated by fans as a nostalgic electric experience. But as crowd enthusiasm soared, the heavy turnout appears to have created conditions ripe for opportunistic theft.

Mumbai Police have registered seven First Information Reports (FIRs) in connection with the thefts. Authorities said CCTV footage and mobile tracking are now being examined to identify and apprehend suspects. “Efforts are on to identify the culprits using CCTV footage and digital tracking,” a senior police official told media.

Among the 25000 attendees were celebrities such as Vidya Balan, Malaika Arora, Rakul Preet Singh, Jackky Bhagnani, Rubina Dilaik, Abhinav Shukla, Meiyang Chang, and Rahul Vaidya.

Dressed in all-black with his trademark cap, Enrique greeted the crowd with a warm “Namaste, Mumbai! Raise your hands!” He then followed it with a 90-minute set that left fans swaying and singing along.

“Thank you so much I came here in 2004 first. It feels amazing to be back,” Enrique told cheering fans during the concert.
