Actor Vivek Oberoi has opened up about a lesser-known chapter of his early career. He revealed that he once worked as an assistant to Farah Khan, all while keeping his identity as Suresh Oberoi’s son completely hidden.
Speaking to Mashable India, the Saathiya actor said he deliberately chose to start from scratch, as he believed that humility and hard work would teach him more than privilege ever could.
“To train, I used to assist Farah for a long time. I started from cleaning the rehearsal rooms and bringing tea to all the dancers, and from there I went up. I never told anybody who my dad was. I kept that out,” he recalled.
Vivek explained that this early experience instilled discipline and gave him a deeper respect for the craft, especially during a time when most people around him were unaware of his background. Working behind the scenes, sweeping floors, preparing rehearsal rooms and serving tea, offered him a grounding perspective long before he became a Bollywood lead.
While promoting his upcoming comedy Masti 4, Vivek also revisited a memorable prank from the sets of the first Masti film in 2004.
Vivek fondly narrated how co-star Aftab Shivdasani had just bought a new luxury car, and that prompted the team to play a prank on him. Vivek and a few others quietly took the car keys, moved the vehicle a couple of lanes away, and then returned the keys to where Aftab had left them.
When Aftab came outside and couldn’t find his prized car, panic set in. The cast watched as he frantically tried to understand what had happened before finally confessing the prank. Aftab, both relieved and irritated, warned them not to repeat such jokes involving his belongings.
Directed by Milap Zaveri, Masti 4 features an ensemble cast including Ruhii Singh, Shreya Sharma, Elnaaz Norouzi, Shaad Randhawa, Nishant Singh Malkani, and Natalia Janoszek. The film is slated to hit theatres on November 21, 2025.
