2025 has clearly been a year of sequels for Ajay Devgn, and he’s showing no signs of slowing down. After the high-octane success of Raid 2 and the lukewarm response to Son of Sardaar 2, the actor is now stepping back into lighter territory with De De Pyaar De 2.
The trailer for the romantic comedy just dropped, and it promises a mix of heart, humour, and some awkward family dinners.
The sequel picks up right where the 2019 original left off. In De De Pyaar De, Devgn’s character, Aashish, a 50-year-old man, found himself in a relationship with the much-younger Ayesha, played by Rakul Preet Singh.
The film ended with Aashish reconciling with his estranged family and winning Ayesha over — thanks in part to his ex-wife Manju (Tabu), who surprisingly supported their relationship.
Now, in De De Pyaar De 2, Aashish is faced with the next big hurdle: winning over Ayesha’s family. The trailer gives us a glimpse of the chaos that follows when he meets her parents, played by R. Madhavan and Gautami Kapoor.
They initially try to keep an open mind about the age gap, but things quickly go south when they realise Aashish is nearly as old as Ayesha’s father. Things get even more complicated when Meezaan Jafri enters the picture — playing the charming “alternative” suitor her parents introduce in hopes of nudging Ayesha away from Aashish.
While the first film focused on Aashish earning acceptance from his own children and ex-wife, the sequel flips the perspective — now it’s about whether he fits into Ayesha’s world. It brings a fresh set of conflicts but still keeps the tone light, cheeky, and relatable.

This time around, the film is directed by Anshul Sharma, with the story once again penned by Luv Ranjan — known for crafting quirky and modern love stories like Pyaar Ka Punchnama and Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety. He also returns as co-producer alongside Ankur Garg and Bhushan Kumar.
Ajay Devgn and Rakul Preet reprise their roles, but Tabu, a standout from the first film, won’t be returning. Jaaved Jaaferi is back as Aashish’s confidant, and joining the cast is Ishita Dutta, who audiences will recognise from the Drishyam series.
With a mix of old faces and new energy, De De Pyaar De 2 seems set to serve another dose of laughter and love.
