Anupam Kher and Naseeruddin Shah feud ended

Veteran actor Anupam Kher and fellow actor Naseeruddin Shah have finally ended their long-running feud after years of public tension.

What started out as a disagreement over politics in 2020 had turned into incisive interviews, jabs on social media, and a lot of conjecture. The two renowned actors seem to have moved past their animosity and found common ground.

Speaking openly on Unfiltered by Samdish, Anupam Kher described how their tense relationship started to improve after an unexpected run-in at the memorial service for director HD Pathak. Anupam claims that  Naseeruddin's straightforward but heartfelt apology helped put an end to any residual animosity and paved the way for a more civilized relationship.

“I still feel I have great respect for Naseer. However, he sometimes has loose-talk conversations about me," Kher said, reflecting on past tensions. He added with a smile, “We did meet recently where he apologised to me - said, ‘Sorry yaar!' We met at HD Pathak's death."

Despite the history, Anupam Kher expressed genuine admiration for NaseeruddinShah, describing him as a major influence on his own career.

“I really like him a lot, and he is one of the actors who inspired me to get into acting,” he said.

Acknowledging that emotions can be complex, Anupam also suggested that Shah’s occasional harsh words might have stemmed from personal frustrations.

“He (Naseeruddin) is a brilliant and intelligent man, and God has given him so much. Nobody is a bigger star than him in parallel cinema. Yet I think there is some kind of bitterness that targets sometimes me, sometimes Dilip Kumar, and sometimes Rajesh Khanna."

The dispute originally erupted after Naseeruddin Shah’s 2020 interview with The Wire, in which he praised Deepika Padukone for visiting JNU students during campus protests.

Naseeruddin had criticised Anupam, saying, “Someone like Anupam Kher has been very vocal. He's a clown, it's in his blood, he can't help it."

Anupam Kher responded sharply on X, tweeting, “You have spent your entire life, despite all the success, in frustration. This is not you talking, but all the substances you have consumed for years. They have clouded your judgment."

Five years later, the two actors now seem ready to move forward.

They were last seen together on screen in Neeraj Pandey’s Aiyaary (2018).

Today, Anupam Kher continues to impress audiences as Colonel Pratap Raina in Tanvi the Great, while Shah recently appeared in Gustaakh Ishq: Kuch Pehle Jaisa.
