Filmmaker Anand Gandhi, known for making movies like Ship of Theseus (2013) and Tumbbad (2018), returns with Maya, a vast sci-fi fantasy universe he co-created with designer Zain Menon, his most ambitious endeavour to date.

Hugo Weaving's novel MAYA: Seed Takes Root, which debuted on Kickstarter, is the universe's first project.

The universe has started as a multi-format, interconnected narrative and explores concepts of truth, control, and human potential in the twenty-first century by fusing movies, stories, games, and immersive experiences.

Meanwhile, in a recent interview with Hindustan Times, Anand and Zain discussed the inspiration behind Maya, their partnership with Hollywood actor Hugo Weaving, the difficulties in creating such a vast world, and whether or not this could be India's version of the MCU.
