Bollywood has been remaking hit South Indian movies for a long time. The most recent one is the Telugu hit Sankranthiki Vasthunam. The movie, which became a huge success earlier this year, is now getting a Hindi remake. Akshay Kumar will play the lead role that Venkatesh Daggubati played in the original.
Sankranthiki Vasthunam, directed by Anil Ravipudi, came out in January 2025 and was one of the biggest box office hits of the year.
The movie made an impressive Rs 280 crore globally, making it the highest-grossing Telugu movie of the year until September, even though it wasn't dubbed into other languages.
The story is called a "triangular crime entertainer" because it follows a man who is stuck between his ex-girlfriend and his wife. It mixes family drama with dark humor and emotional depth, which is a signature style of Ravipudi's films.
Akshay Kumar and Anees Bazmee to work together
As per an article published in Gulte, Anees Bazmee, who is known for making hit comedies like Welcome, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, and Ready, will direct the Hindi remake. Bazmee also directed the Hindi version of another Telugu hit, Ready, which starred Salman Khan.
Reports say that Bazmee wants to keep the spirit of the Telugu original while changing the story to fit Hindi audiences. Akshay Kumar, who is known for being able to do many different things and having perfect comic timing, is said to have liked the script and is looking forward to bringing the character to life in his own way.
The two female leads, who will be played by Meenakshi Chaudhary and Aishwarya Rajesh, are currently being cast. The movie is set to start filming in early 2026.
Dil Raju Returns as Producer
The Hindi remake will also be produced by famous producer Dil Raju, who was behind the original film with Shirish under the Sri Venkateswara Creations banner. The production team is currently working out the final technical and creative details. Shooting should start after Akshay finishes his current projects.
Anil Ravipudi's Success Outside of Telugu Movies
After Sankranthiki Vasthunam, director Anil Ravipudi's National Award-winning film Bhagavanth Kesari is also making waves in many fields. H. Vinoth is directing the Tamil remake of the movie, which stars Thalapathy Vijay as the main character.
Sankranthiki Vasthunam is getting a big Hindi adaptation, which is another sign of how Telugu cinema continues to inspire Bollywood by combining regional stories with national appeal.
