15 Filmmakers rush to register ‘Operation Sindoor’ title after war film interest surges

After India carried out targeted strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in response to the deadly April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, the title ‘Operation Sindoor’ has caught the attention of Bollywood. Several top production houses have applied to register this title, hoping to create a film based on the event. BN Tiwari, president of the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), confirmed that around 15 studios have applied for it.

These applications were submitted to the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA), which handles the registration of film titles in India. According to people in the industry, this kind of rush is quite normal. Whenever a major national event takes place, filmmakers often try to secure titles related to it. Even if there are no immediate plans to make a film, having the title ready gives them the option to explore it in the future.

A source explained that after the success of films like Uri, War, and Fighter, filmmakers are more confident about making movies based on military or patriotic themes. These films have done well at the box office, showing that audiences are interested in such stories. As a result, producers want to keep the option open to make a film on Operation Sindoor.

Filmmaker and activist Ashoke Pandit confirmed that he has also applied to register the title. Speaking to India Today, he said that registering a title is the first important step in making a film. “Even if a film doesn’t happen, having the title gives us a chance to think about it later. I personally relate to this topic deeply, as someone who has suffered due to terrorism coming from Pakistan. It’s not just a title for me, it’s an emotional subject,” he said.

Among the 15 applicants, Mahaveer Jain’s production company was the first to register for the title. Other well-known names in the race include filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar and major studios like T-Series and Zee Studios.
