Bhavana Ramanna on soon becoming a mother

Actress and accomplished classical dancer Bhavana Ramanna is joyfully anticipating the arrival of twins, as she enters the sixth month of her pregnancy. Conceived through IVF, her journey to motherhood is a deeply personal one—undertaken as a single woman in her 40s, determined to fulfil a long-nurtured desire to become a mother.

As per Times of India, she said, “I grew up in a home that was always full — parents, three siblings, and a steady stream of relatives and friends,” she recalls. “I always loved being around kids, but the thought of having my own never took root in my twenties. In my thirties, I was ready for love, but even then, motherhood wasn’t something I considered. It was only when I turned 40 that the call to become a mother became impossible to ignore.”

Bhavana initially hoped to embrace motherhood through more conventional means. “Since marriage and I never crossed paths, I had to look at other possibilities — including assisted reproduction,” she shares. However, she faced significant resistance. “Many IVF doctors simply hung up the moment they learned I was single and unmarried,” she says.

Her perseverance paid off when she found a clinic near her home that welcomed her journey with compassion. Choosing a donor and undergoing IVF treatment, she conceived on the very first attempt. “My doctor has been incredibly supportive… My siblings rallied around me… I couldn’t be more sure,” she adds.

Looking ahead, Bhavana has carefully prepared to raise her children independently. “Soon, I will have two little souls who will call me Amma,” she says with pride. She acknowledges the questions her children may face and the scrutiny that single mothers often endure. “I will teach them to speak for themselves, to walk with confidence… My kids will grow up in a home filled with love, art, tradition, and culture,” she shares.

Importantly, Bhavana emphasises that her decision was not one of rebellion but of clarity and self-assurance. “Had I found a partner, I would’ve walked the conventional road... If sharing my story can help even one woman feel less alone, I’ll consider that a victory.”
