Actress Shubhangi Atre, known for her role as Angoori Bhabi in Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain!, recently broke her silence following the death of her ex-husband, Piyush Poore, who passed away on April 18 due to liver cirrhosis. She opened up about their troubled past and the painful decision to separate.

In a conversation with Times of India TV, Shubhangi addressed the backlash she had been receiving online since the news of Piyush’s death surfaced. “It was easy for people to judge without knowing the full story. They assumed I left him because I was successful, but that wasn’t true. Our separation came after years of emotional struggle,” she explained. “I left because his alcohol addiction took a toll on our lives. I tried everything to save the marriage—even sent him to rehab—but nothing worked. Both our families made several efforts to help him, but addiction ultimately destroyed him and affected all of us.”

The actress also shared that she had to make a painful yet necessary choice for the sake of her daughter, Ashi. “It wasn’t an impulsive decision. Things started to go downhill around 2018–2019, and we eventually got divorced in February 2025. I had to prioritize Ashi’s well-being,” she said.

Despite their separation, Shubhangi revealed that she stayed in touch with Piyush and always encouraged him to seek help. She also maintained a cordial relationship with his family. “I last spoke to him on April 16 and prayed for his recovery. I’m still emotional and numb. I want to remember Piyush for all the good memories we shared. I’ll be going to Indore soon to be with his family,” she added.

Shubhangi’s candid words shed light on the complexities of addiction and the silent battles families often endure behind closed doors.
