Bengali television and film actor Sumi Har Choudhry was rescued by the police on Monday after she was found wandering aimlessly near Amila Bazar in West Bengal’s Purba Bardhaman district. Dressed in shorts and a black full-sleeved shirt, she was spotted by locals on the Bardhaman-Arambagh state highway, sitting by the roadside with a pen and paper.

According to reports from The Indian Express, Choudhry was speaking incoherently in both Bengali and English, prompting concern from residents who approached her. She reportedly identified herself as an actress and sought shelter from the rain at a roadside rest spot in Khandaghosh. Initially met with skepticism, her identity was soon confirmed after locals searched for her online and matched her profile and photos.

Sumi Har Choudhry is a familiar face in Bengali television and cinema, known for her supporting roles in various serials and films. Among her notable works is the film Khashi Katha: A Goat Saga, where she shared the screen with renowned Bollywood actor Naseeruddin Shah. Her other credited appearances include Dwitiyo Purush, Rupsagore Moner Manush, and Tumi Ashe Pashe Thakle.

Police officials, led by Abhishek Mandal, sub-divisional police officer of Bardhaman Sadar South, confirmed that Choudhry has been taken to a shelter home for safety. “Efforts are underway to trace her family,” Mandal stated, adding that the Behala police station in Kolkata has also been alerted.

Choudhry gave conflicting accounts of her origins, sometimes stating she was from Kolkata and at other times mentioning Bholpur in Birbhum district. Authorities later confirmed that she is a resident of Behala in Kolkata and may have spent some time in Bholpur. The circumstances that led her to Khandaghosh remain unclear.
