Backstreet Boys Nick Carter faces sexual assault allegations

Nick Carter, member of the Backstreet Boys, is once again the target of serious accusations after a woman filed a new lawsuit against him, alleging that he committed multiple sexual assaults and intentionally spread STIs.

According to the woman, Laura Penly, the attacks started when she was only 19 years old and took place between 2004 and 2005.

As reported by TMZ, legal documents reveal that Penly claims to have met Carter in Los Angeles, where they began a short-lived sexual relationship. She asserts that Carter refused to use protection during their encounters, which allegedly led to her contracting various STDs, including human papillomavirus (HPV), chlamydia, and gonorrhoea.

She further claims that she was later diagnosed with cervical cancer, which she believes stemmed from the HPV infection.

Penly says Carter apologised after the first incident and invited her over again, during which she alleges a second assault took place under similar circumstances. According to her lawsuit, the assaults have had a lasting impact on her physical and emotional well-being.

She claims to have undergone cancer treatments, including surgery, and continues to suffer from medical complications, emotional trauma, and intimacy issues.

The lawsuit, filed in the United States, accuses Carter of sexual assault, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and negligent infliction of emotional distress. Penly is seeking unspecified damages.

Nick Carter has firmly denied the allegations. His legal representatives, Liane K. Wakayama and Dale Hayes Jr., dismissed the claims as "false and defamatory," stating that this lawsuit is yet another attempt by what they describe as a “group of conspirators” aiming to harm Carter’s reputation and career. They argue the accusations follow a familiar pattern—surfacing during a high point in Carter’s professional life to maximise damage.

Carter’s team also insists he has no recollection of meeting Penly and disputes any suggestion of a relationship. They further allege that Penly has a history of legal and financial issues, including bankruptcy and fraud claims.

This lawsuit adds to the list of legal challenges the pop star has faced in recent years, all of which he has consistently denied.
