Assamese actress Nandini Kashyap was taken into custody in the early hours of Wednesday in connection with the July 25 hit-and-run case that resulted in the death of a 21-year-old polytechnic student, who also worked part-time for the Guwahati Municipal Corporation.
After days of intense police interrogation, she was arrested as public outrage grew and pressure from student organisations and community groups demanding justice and accountability increased.
According to a report by The Statesman, Kashyap was apprehended late Tuesday night in North Guwahati. She was first brought to Dispur Police Station for initial questioning and later transferred to the All Women Police Station in Panbazar, where her formal arrest was recorded at approximately 1:30 AM.
The aforementioned incident occurred in Guwahati's Dakhingaon locality on the evening of July 25. Samiul Haque, a temporary employee of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation and a second-year student at Nalbari Polytechnic, was hit by a speeding car.

Samiul was taken to Gauhati Medical College for emergency care after the collision, and then he was moved to Apollo Hospital. Sadly, the next night he passed away from his wounds.
As per reports, CCTV footage from the night of the incident captures the moment the 21-year-old student was on his way home when he was run over by a Bolero SUV, reportedly driven by the Assamese actress. Eyewitnesses claim that the Rudra star did not stop to assist the victim and instead fled the scene immediately after the collision.
In a significant development, police have confirmed the addition of Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)—which deals with culpable homicide—to the charges in the case.
