In the midst of the controversy over Ranveer Allahbadia's comments, YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani, according to a report by Hindustan Times, has filed a petition with the Supreme Court to either have the FIR lodged in Guwahati dismissed or transferred, regarding allegations of promoting obscenity on an online show.

As reported by PTI, Ashish has been named in the case, which was registered in Assam following controversial statements made by Ranveer on the YouTube show India's Got Latent.

Ranveer is considered the primary accused in the case due to his inflammatory remarks, which have sparked widespread criticism. Ashish’s plea is set to be heard before the Supreme Court bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice N Kotiswar Singh on Friday.

In his petition, Ashish has requested the quashing of the FIR lodged at the Cyber Police Station in the Police Commissionerate, Guwahati Crime Branch, Assam, claiming it was filed after the FIR in Mumbai.

Alternatively, Ashish has requested that the FIR registered in Guwahati be transferred to the Mumbai Police Nodal Cyber Station, as another FIR bearing No. 05 of 2025 was registered earlier in Mumbai.

On Tuesday, the Gauhati High Court granted Ashish interim bail while hearing his anticipatory bail application.

The court also instructed him to appear before the investigating officer within ten days.

Ashish’s legal team argued that their client had not made any objectionable remarks during the show, and that the allegations in the FIR were directed solely at the co-accused individuals.

The FIR in question was lodged by Guwahati Police on February 10 following a complaint filed by an individual.

The complaint cited several sections of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhtia (BNS), the Information Technology Act, the Cinematograph Act, and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court had granted Ranveer interim protection from arrest on February 18, following his controversial comments on the YouTube show. The court labelled his remarks as "vulgar" and criticised them for presenting a "dirty mind" that shamed society.
