Arijit Singh cancels Chennai concert

Following the devastating terror attack in the Pahalgam region of Jammu and Kashmir, famed playback singer Arijit Singh has cancelled his highly anticipated concert in Chennai, which was originally set for Sunday, April 27.

At least 26 people were killed and numerous others were injured in the tragic incident that took place in the Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, sending shockwaves across the country.

In a gesture of empathy and respect for the victims and their families, Arijit Singh and the event organisers jointly decided to call off the performance as a mark of solidarity.

A statement released by the organisers read, “IMPORTANT UPDATE. In light of the recent and tragic events, the organisers, along with the artist, have collectively made the decision to cancel the upcoming show scheduled to happen in Chennai this Sunday, April 27th. All ticket holders will receive full refunds, and the amount will be automatically refunded back to your original mode of payment.”

The decision, which acknowledges the artist's sensitivity to the national tragedy, has been warmly received by fans and the general public. This comes amid a recent controversy involving Singh, who was criticised for singing a song in the movie Abir Gulaal, which starred Fawad Khan, a Pakistani actor.

Online debate was sparked by the song Khudaya Ishq, which also features Shilpa Rao's vocals. However, the emphasis has since shifted to the artist's act of compassion during a period of national mourning. Now both the released songs from the film have been removed from YouTube.

Additionally, ticket sales for Anirudh Ravichander's upcoming Hukum Tour performance in Bengaluru have been postponed. Originally, they were scheduled to begin on April 24. The "current national situation" has caused the ticket release to be postponed, and a new date will be announced soon, the organisers confirmed in a statement.

Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Alia Bhatt, Siddharth Malhotra, Katrina Kaif, Priyanka Chopra, and Allu Arjun are among the Bollywood and South Indian movie stars who have expressed their grief and indignation over the incident. They have joined together to denounce the attack and offer their condolences to the victims.
