Apoorva Mukhija, a popular social media influencer and YouTuber, had her event in Udaipur, Rajasthan, cancelled at the last minute due to protests by the Karni Sena. The group, in response to the ongoing controversy surrounding her participation in the show India's Got Latent, warned her not to enter Mewar.
As per a report from, ETV Bharat, Paramveer Singh, head of the Karni Sena in Udaipur, stated that Apoorva Mukhija’s actions on India's Got Latent were against the cultural values of both India and Rajasthan, and such behaviour would not be tolerated.
He said, “We won’t let her enter Mewar,” adding that the government and organisers should stop her from attending the event, or face consequences. As a result of the protests, Apoorva’s scheduled event and video shoot for February 20 in Udaipur were both cancelled.
At the time of writing, Mukhija has not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
For context, the controversy began when Apoorva appeared alongside Ranveer Allahbadia and Ashish Chanchlani on Samay Raina’s show India's Got Latent.
During the episode, Ranveer posed a highly inappropriate question to a contestant, asking, “Would you rather watch your parents have sex for the rest of your life, or would you join in once and stop it forever?”
Apoorva and Samay were seen laughing at the remark, which quickly sparked a wave of backlash from viewers.
In response to the episode, both the Maharashtra Cyber Cell and Assam Police have filed FIRs against Ranveer, Samay, Apoorva, and others involved with the show.
On February 12, Apoorva gave a statement to the Mumbai Police regarding the matter. She explained that the show was unscripted, they were not paid for their appearances, and their reactions to the question were completely natural.
As per reports around 40 people have been summoned by the Maharashtra police regarding this case including Siddhanth Chaturvedi, Tanmay Bhatt, Raftaar, Balraj Ghai, Samay Raina, Ranveer Allahbadia.
